Privacy Policy

The one-line version: we collect nothing. No accounts, no server database, no analytics SDK, no ads.

Where your data lives

Your sightings (date, place, notes) are stored in your own device's local storage. Photos you take or choose are stored in your own device's local database (IndexedDB). They are never uploaded anywhere — we do not operate a server that could receive them.

What the permissions are for

Camera and photo library: only to attach a photo to one of your sightings. The photo stays on your device. Location: only when you tap the pin button, to read your current coordinates once and fill them into the "place" field of that sighting. There is no background location and nothing is uploaded. You may decline both permissions; everything else still works.

Network access

All species data and photos are bundled inside the iOS app, so normal use needs no connection. The website loads pages and images from our server, which keeps only ordinary access logs (standard nginx logs). Those contain no personally identifying information and are not used for profiling.

Exporting and deleting your data

Under "Me → Settings" you can export your sightings as a .fishlog file to keep yourself, or erase all records with one tap. Deleting the app (or clearing the website's site data) removes every local record permanently.

Children's privacy

The app collects no data from anyone, and therefore none from children.

In-app purchase

The iOS "full version" unlock is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple. We never see or store payment or account information. Restoring a purchase also goes through Apple alone.

Third-party content

Species photos come from Wikimedia Commons under Creative Commons licences, credited image by image under "Photo credits and licences" in the app. The app contains no third-party SDKs.
